Iowa Wrestlers beat Oklahoma State

IOWA CITY– Nine straight losses to the Cowboys doesn’t sound right so the Hawkeyes, wrestling without two starters, won six matches and righted the wrong with a 20-13 win over the Cowboys.
I don’t know if head coach Tom Brands will be happy with four matches decided by less than three points but there is still time to improve.
I suppose you have to give Oklahoma State a little credit for keeping it close.
They used a smaller mat, which Mark Ironside (radio color man for Iowa) called a “junior high mat”.

City of North Liberty hosts annual Super Bowl Party Feb. 1

NORTH LIBERTY– Join the fun of the annual Super Bowl Party on Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Gerdin Conference Center in the North Liberty Community Center.
Watch the game on the big screen while your kids enjoy activities and games. Non-alcoholic beverages will be served at this family-friendly event. Door prize drawings will be held throughout the evening. This event is free and open to the public.
The party begins 30 minutes before the game and lasts until the game ends. Bring a covered dish to share for a community potluck.

North Central Jr. High Knights go undefeated

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Central Knights eighth-grade boys basketball team completed the season with a 9-0 record. They were also undefeated as seventh-graders so they completed junior high with an overall record of 18-0.

Carol M. Strank, 62, of 3161 Sandy Beach Rd. NE, Solon, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a lengthy illness.

Deere to be different

NORTH LIBERTY–The west end of Lininger Lane will see additional development this spring.
City Tractor Company, Inc., a dealership which sells and services lawn and commercial worksite equipment– largely of the John Deere brand– submitted a commercial site plan for approval by the North Liberty City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
The plan calls for a 12,400 sq. ft. building which will house a showroom, offices, shop and storage space, as well as a 4,800 sq. ft. storage building to be located on the northwest corner of Penn Court and Lininger Lane.

Boy Scout Troop to host chili supper Feb. 7

NORTH LIBERTY– North Liberty Boy Scout Troop 216 will host its 29th annual Chili Supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the North Liberty Community Center.
Tickets are $5. Children 5 and under are admitted free. The dinner includes all-you-can-eat meat or vegetarian chili, bread, drinks and a variety of homemade desserts, including traditional scout cobbler.
The dinner is the troop’s only annual fundraising event. Proceeds help cover the cost of high adventure trips, summer camp and other activities for the troop’s 25 scouts.
