Obituaries

Darlene Monroe

day, Sept. 1, 2013, at her daughter’s home in North Liberty. Memorial services were held Sept. 8 at Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine, with the Rev. Steve Hubbell presiding. Inurnment followed at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Murray, now of North Liberty; her daughter, Becky (Mike Palmer) of North Liberty; her favorite granddog, Misty; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pecenka of Traer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Dorothy Overton

Dorothy Louise Overton, 77, of Iowa City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
A graveside memorial service was held Sept. 7 at the Donnellson Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson, with the Rev. Dr. Barrie Tritle officiating.
Dorothy was born May 23, 1936, in Palo Alto, Calif., the daughter of Nicholas and Hazel (Schock) Sparsman. She moved to Donnellson, with her family as a young child. She was a 1954 graduate of Donnellson High School, where she participated in several activities, including basketball, drama and band.

Josephine Rompot

Josephine S. Rompot, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Swisher. Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.

Marjorie A. Zeman

Marjorie A. Zeman, 85, of Solon, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the Solon Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 9 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Solon, with burial in Oakland Cemetery.
Marjorie was born May 11, 1928 in rural Solon, the daughter of Frank G. and Tillie (Chaloupka) Reif. She married Robert “Bob” Zeman on Oct. 9, 1946. Marjorie worked at Russells Guide as the mailing department manager for over 53 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Eagles and Moose Club in Iowa City, St. Mary’s and St. Wenceslaus Catholic Churches.

Teune Cavan

Teune Cavan, 77, of North Liberty, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at home by the side of her loving family. Funeral services preceded by visitation were held Aug. 31 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the general fund.
Teune will be missed by her children Pom (Vieng), Sing, Southone (Moui), Pong, Seng (Steve), Lane (Jennifer), Porne (Regina), Peng, Yua (Melinda), Oai (Melina), and Danny (Mindy), her brother Chan, and sisters Giom and Chat. Teune is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mary Green

Mary Christine “Chris” Green, 61, of North Liberty, passed away on Aug. 28, 2013, in the early morning; the angels came to take Mary Chris Green to her place in heaven … her well deserved new home. Chris was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer almost three and one half years ago, and with the grace of God, the love of many, and most of all her amazing spirit, this beautiful lady continued to embrace life and those she loved until the angels came and the heavens opened to greet her.
