Obituaries

Daisy Chipman

Daisy E. Chipman, 93, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, in Port Charlotte, Fla. following a brief illness.
Funeral Services celebrating Daisy’s life were held Feb. 25 at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. Burial was at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. In lieu of flowers, the Daisy Chipman Memorial Fund has been established.
Daisy was born March 30, 1919, in Iowa City, the daughter of Harry and Neta (Southwick) Grout. She was a graduate of Sharon Center High School and attended the University of Iowa. On Aug. 23, 1940, Daisy married Carroll Chipman in Independence.

Russell Weisert

Russell “Rusty” Weisert, 90, of Mount Auburn, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Virginia Gay Hospital from cancer. Private graveside services were held at Evergreen Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion.
“Rusty” was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Mount Auburn, to Clifford and Ethel (Geltz) Weisert and graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Emil H. Dutler American Legion Post #177 of Mount Auburn.

Brandon Leffert

Brandon Paul Leffert, 26, of Central City, passed at home on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, of a courageous battle with brain cancer. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
Local survivors include Kris (Bryce Ruroden) Nelson of Ely.
Brandon was born May 4, 1986, in Bakersfield, Calif., the son of Michael and Roxanne (Nelson) Leffert. He graduated from Marion High School in 2005, and then attended Kirkwood Community College. Most recently, he was proud to work for Heinz Quality Chef Foods in Cedar Rapids.

Max Fayram

Max Ray Fayram, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Services were held Feb. 16 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa with Pastor Mark Buck officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.

Richard Cornelius

Richard M. “Rich” Cornelius, 65, of Monticello, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at his home. A celebration of Richard’s life was held Feb. 18 at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial was at Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.

Richard Milo Cornelius was born April 17, 1947, in Clinton, to Milo Fred and Flossie Louise (Peterson) Cornelius. He grew up in Andrew and was a 1965 graduate of Andrew High School.
In 1966, Rich began a career in the grocery business. He was a produce manager for several companies for 47 years, retiring in 2011.

Leonard Chmelicek

Leonard Chmelicek, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Per Leonard’s wishes, there will be no services.
Leonard was born July 26, 1923, at home in Cedar Rapids and was delivered by his parents, Emil and Anna (Cerveny) Chmelicek. He attended McKinley High School until a teacher told him he might as well quit. He grew up during the Great Depression, and at age 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was discharged in 1951. He married Lucille Tomkins on April 5, 1946, in Iowa City.
