Boys soccer team defeats Marion and West Delaware to move to 3-4

SOLON– So far, the Spartans are undefeated at home.
Brandon Childs scored two goals on assists from Andrew West and Dylan Doyle as Solon’s varsity soccer team shut out Mmarion, 2-0, at Spartan Stadium Tuesday, April 8.
The Spartans went 1-2 at a tournament in Hudson over the weekend, defeating West Delaware, 4-0, but falling to Hudson and Postville to move to 3-4 on the year.
Against West Delaware, Childs and West teamed up for all of the scoring and assists. Childs had three goals and one assist, while West had one goal and three assists.

Clipper girls start soccer season 2-0

Road win in Wellman leads to victory at home

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) girls varsity soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 road win last Monday (April 7) against Mid-Prairie in Wellman and followed it the next day with a 6-1 win over Central Clinton of DeWitt at home.
At Wellman, the Clippers took a 2-0 lead at the half with a pair of goals by Kelsey Hall off assists by the Bormann sisters, Emma and Hannah. The pair teamed up in the second half as Emma scored on an assist from Hannah.
Clipper coach Matt Harding pointed out CCA outshot the Golden Hawks 17-3.

West High boys second at North Scott

ELDRIDGE– Iowa City West High’s varsity boys track and field team placed second overall in team points last Tuesday (April 8) at the Delmar “Deac” Ryan Relays hosted by North Scott High School. Pleasant Valley won the meet with 137.50 points while the Trojans earned 110.00 and Cedar Rapids Prairie placed third with 88.00.
The West High 4x800-meter relay team won their event in 8:07.86 and the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay won in 3:35.00.

TIFFIN– Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Clipper varsity soccer team opened the 2014 season with a loss at home last Monday to the Golden Eagles of Mid-Prairie in sudden-death overtime.

Distance Medley Relay squad earns a win

JOHNSTON– The Iowa City West High Women of Troy placed third in overall team points last Tuesday (April 8) at the Craig Oldham Invitational hosted by Johnston High School. Waukee won the meet with 203 points while West High had 108.
The West High 1,600-meter distance medley relay team won their event in 4:29.67, giving the Women of Troy 10 points. Emmie Skopec, Valerie Welch and Taleah Smith were all second in the 1,500-meter run, 400-meter hurdles and long jump respectively. The 400-meter shuttle hurdle relay team also brought home a second-place finish.

WASHINGTON– Clear Creek Amana (CCA)’s boys track and field team tied with Fairfield for first place in team points at the Demon Relays hosted last Thursday (April 10) by Washington High School. CCA and Fairfield had 118 points to lead the six-team field.
