Men’s 2017 basketball wrap-up

Hawk Talk

The Hawkeye men’s basketball team is coming off a 19-15 record, 10-8 in the Big Ten conference.
There is plenty of excitement around the Iowa program as the team included three freshman starters.
Also, only one starter graduated, but he was a great one in Peter Jok.
Pete became Iowa’s fifth Big Ten scoring champion, averaging 19.9 points per game. He also won the College 3-point Championship that took place at the Final Four festivities in Phoenix.
Pete was first team All-Big Ten, and as I have said before, I think he is the best pure shooter I have ever seen play for Iowa.

Many spend a restless night checking screens, wondering who made it to the state meet, beyond the automatic qualifiers. For Solon’s girls and those in 63 other Class 3A schools, only first and second place guarantee a ticket to state, May 18-20 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

It was the nicest day the athletes saw this season; blue skies, fluffy clouds, mild temperatures and sounds of girls voices cheering, shouting encouragement and checking in for their next events. It was raucous and joyous, not too serious and buzzed with the excitement of youth.

Sooner than later for new elementary school

Enrollment projections lead to a slight gamble for CCA facilities plan

OXFORD– In September, voters in the Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Community School District will be asked to approve a $36 million bond issue, which– if approved– would finance a new elementary school among other projects aimed at addressing continued enrollment growth. The new unnamed elementary was originally scheduled to be open for the 2020-21 school year; however, Superintendent Tim Kuehl recently asked the School Board of Directors to move it up one year.
