King and Queen pins go their separate ways
North Liberty Leader
IOWA CITY– The King and Queen pins have separated for a year.
The pins, traveling trophies for the West High and City High varsity bowlers, are symbols of the crosstown rivalry and objects of bragging rights much like “The Boot” for the football teams and “The Spike” for the volley-ballers.
For two years, the royal pins have resided in the trophy case at West High. But Friday, Jan. 30, the Little Hawks claimed the Queen with a 2,577 to 2,186 win over the Women of Troy at Colonial Lanes while the Trojans kept the King by beating City High, 2,752 to 2,515.
