Amanda passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at her grandparents’ home in Williamsburg after a four-year courageous battle with cancer at the age of 32 years. Amanda Lea Hook, was born Dec. 26, 1981, in Maryville, Ill., the daughter of Thomas and Denise (Huedepohl) Hook. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Celebration of Life Service was held on April 11 at Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. The Rev. Carl Cloeter officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg.
From her arrival into the family as a first grandchild, she was a center of focus to a doting family. After the loss of her father and later her mother and brother, the family became an even greater support. She graduated from West High School in Iowa City, in 2000. She was employed at the Coralville Wal-Mart for 10 years and participated in Special Olympics. She thoroughly enjoyed her friends in the Lunch Bunch, the Iowa City Brain Injury Group, and her housemates and staff at her Systems Unlimited Residence.
She is survived by her grandparents: Robert and Joan Hook and Neva Norris all of Williamsburg; aunts and uncles Ardith (Kevin) Stoner of North Liberty and David (Shari) Hook of Williamsburg; step-mother Lori Hook of Iowa City; cousins Ashley (Cody) Hartman, Matthew Stoner, Adam Hook and Benjamin Hartman; and many special friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Denise Hook; a brother James Hook; two stillborn sisters, Candyce and Jennifer; and her grandfather Robert Norris.
