August activities for Old Gold Diner

• Thank you to Ruzicka’s Meat Processing for sponsoring the July 13 meal. Be sure to thank them for their support of the Old Gold Diner.
• Bingo is Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11 a.m. is penny bingo and, following lunch, play for prizes. Play black-out for a free Old Gold Diner meal ticket as a grand prize.
• Cards on Fridays: Warm up before lunch at 11 a.m. and play as long as you like in the afternoon. Euchre and bridge are the choices right now. Diners are open to other suggestions for other games. There time to play cards on Wednesdays at similar times. The United Methodist Women do not meet in August, so there will be cards Wednesday, Aug. 3.
• Recycled greeting cards are available for purchase for just 50¢ each. See all the cards at the Solon United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. There is a new display rack making it easier to view and select cards. If the type of card you want is not available, let Duane or Anna know and they will try to find something to meet your need.
• Wednesday, Aug. 3, will be a Birthday Party for those with August birthdays. Fill out the Old Gold Diner signup form and let us know August is your birthday month or call for a reservation to eat, and your meal will be compliments of Old Gold Diner. Complimentary birthday meals are only available on Aug. 3 for August birthdays. For those who haven’t filled out the form, let us know your birthday month when you call for your reservation and you can fill out the form when you come.
• Tuesday, Aug. 9, representatives from the City of Solon will be on hand to dine and keep us up on what’s going on around Solon. They will answer any city-related questions.
• Old Gold Diner Site Council meets Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to help plan activities, entertainment and everyday operations. If unable to attend, call 319-624-2551 with comments and suggestions.
• The next Sponsored Meal is Wednesday, Aug. 10, and will be presented by Sam’s Main Street Market.
• The Foot Clinic is Thursday, Aug. 11. Those interested may contact Duane or Anna McAtee at 319-624-2251 at the Old Gold Diner for information or to get signed up . The service is provided by the Visiting Nurses Association for only $12, and appointments are required.
• Performing Aug. 31 will be “Just Mike.” Mike McElroy was part of a trio called the “Panhandlers.” Now he is on his own (two years now!). He specializes in senior living entertainment. Reservations are required. Please note this change from our regular routine. Entertainment is usually the fourth Wednesday of the month, but this month it is the fifth Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is the only day Mike could come.
• The price of the meals rose to $3.75 on July 5. All tickets that folks purchased prior to that date will be honored at the price paid for them.
All ages are welcome but children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $3.75 per person no matter their age. Reservations are required. Tuesday through Friday, call by 1 p.m. the day before. For a Monday reservation, call by 1 p.m. the Friday before (if there is a Monday holiday also call Friday for a Tuesday reservation). If you forget to bring cash, billing can be provided at the end of the month. Another option is to purchase tickets for the meals. Delivery is available in town and to other close locations. If you cancel the day of the meal, we ask you to pay for that day.
Monthly calendars/menus may be received by stopping at the Old Gold Diner, or calling 319-624-2251 to have it mailed to you. Provide your email address and it can be emailed to you. The weekly menu continues to be printed in the Solon Economist and the monthly menu printed in North Johnson County.
