Book sale results
Despite the nasty Sunday weather and a power outage, the Friends of the Library are pleased to report a good turnout at the Annual Memorial Day Weekend Used Book Sale. With over 7,000 items offered for sale, there seemed to be a good selection for everyone. Many people browsed and selected books, audio books, CDs, DVDs and VCR movies. On Monday, with bargain rates of 10 items for a dollar, most items were cleared out by the time the sale ended at 12 p.m. Proceeds will be used for supplies and equipment as well as expanding the library collection of books, audio books and DVDs. The Friend of the Library also provides some funding to the Solon Public School libraries.
Most recently, the Friends purchased four stepstools, an additional book cart, a utility cart and a dozen bean bag chairs for the young movie watchers in the meeting room.
Donations are accepted year round as the Friends continue to collect, sort and box items for the February sale. With the advancement in technology, VHS tapes and audio books on cassette tapes are no longer desired, so the Friends will no longer be accepting or offering them at future sales. Encyclopedia sets are not accepted. Text or reference books more than five years old or romance novels over 10 years old are also not accepted.
