Boys place 10th at State, break school records
DES MOINES– The Solon boy’s track team scored points in six events and finished 10th as a team with 30 points at the Class 3A State Track Meet May 19-21 in Des Moines.
Nick Day placed in both jumping events taking third in the high jump with a leap of 6-4 and fifth in the long jump with a mark of 21 1-1/2. While Nick did not place as high as hoped, he will leave Solon with the school record in the high jump, having gone 6-9 earlier this season. He is also the only male athlete in Solon history to place in four events at the state meet.
Jordan Wymer threw the discus 141 11, an outstanding distance considering he is a freshman.
Colin Bream recorded personal bests in both the 3200 (9:47), and the 1600 (4:32). His time in the 3200 established a new school record in the event.
Colton Dall ran the 400 meter low hurdles in 56.77, finishing 10th out of the 24 participants who competed
Derek Loveless placed in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. His time of 11.35 was good for fifth in the 100, while his 23.1 clocking in the 200 earned a sixth place finish. Pat Parysz ran the 200 in 23.01 in the preliminaries, recording the 10th fastest time overall.
The 1600 meter medley team, consisting of Jonah Kuntz, Wymer, Dall and Bream established a new school record in the event. Their clocking of 3:36 was good for a ninth place finish,
The 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams had been outstanding all season, and the state meet was no exception. The 4x200, consisting of Kuntz, Loveless, Day, and Parysz ran the event in 11:29.74, finishing in fourth place. The 4x100 team, consisting of Andy Klouda, Loveless, Day, and Parysz set a new school record of 42.8 in the preliminaries, and ran 43.06 in the finals, taking second place.
The team says goodbye to a talented group of seniors who have accomplished a lot in their four years at Solon including Nick Day, Derek Loveless, Pat Parysz, Colin Bream, Kyle Kienholz and Austin Birely.
