Boys second at Jesse Day Relays in Davenport
DAVENPORT– The Solon varsity boys track team had a strong showing in a meet held at Brady Street Stadium in Davenport last week, finishing second in a field of strong 4A and 3A schools.
The team scored well in field events, led by senior thrower Dalton Ferguson, taking first in the shot put with a throw of 56’1, and second in the discuss with a toss of 153’8. The long jump has become a strong event for Solon as well, with Zach Nunemaker finishing second on a leap of 21’1 and Halston Durr close behind in fourth at 20’2.
In the high jump, Jaden Durr was second at 5’8, and Matt Roeder third at 5’6. Danny Whitmore rounded out the field event scoring by placing eighth in the shot put with a throw of 42’10.5.
Solon has developed a reputation over the years as being very strong in the sprint events, and this year is no exception. Connor Ham won the 100-meter dash in 11.16 and also anchored both the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays to victory. Teammates Brandon Childs, Nathan Christensen and Jordan Wymer joined Ham on both relays, running impressive times of 43.86 and 1:31.57 respectively. Payton Nicol added a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.89.

3,200-meter run: Patrick McGill, fifth, 10:40.07;
100-meter hurdles: Jacob Gibbs, sixth, 17.08; Colton Hansel, seventh, 17.91;
400-meter hurdles: Josh Prybil, fifth, 1:01.05; Keegan Hess, sixth, 1:02.65;
4x800: Zach Keinholz, Jake Schaekenbach, Niklas Rehnke, Trevor Yahr, fourth, 8:44.83;
Shuttle hurdle relay: Jacob Gibbs, Nate Christensen, Colton Hansel, Keegan Hess, fourth, 1:05.57;
1,600 medley relay: Nate Kennedy, Eli DeWitt, Payton Nicol, Trevor Yahr, fourth, 4:08.9.

Six events qualify for Drake Relays
The Spartans have qualified an impressive six events for this weekend’s prestigious Drake relays including:
• Dalton Ferguson in the shot put and discus;
• Connor Ham in the 100 and 200-meter dash;
• Zach Nunemaker in the long jump;
• The 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams consisting of Brandon Childs, Nate Christensen, Jordan Wymer and Connor Ham.
The team competed at home Tuesday night in the Denny Gruber Relays, named in honor of long time teacher and track coach Dennis Gruber, and will head to Des Moines for the Drake relays Friday with competition running through Saturday.
