Boys win six events to claim district title

MARION– The Solon boy’s track team, riding the strength of six first-place finishes, claimed the team title at last week’s district track meet held at Marion.

Event champions included:
Shot put: Dalton Ferguson, 59’10;
Discus: Tanner Wymer, 153’10;
200-meter dash: Connor Ham, 22.69;
110-meter high hurdles: Connor Ham, 14.67;
4x100 meter relay: Jordan Wymer, Nate Christensen, Brandon Childs, Connor Ham; 44.57;
4x200 meter relay: Brandon Childs, Nate Christensen, Jordan Wymer, Connor Ham, 1:32.4.
Dalton Ferguson also earned an automatic qualifying spot for state as runner-up in the discus, with a throw of 145’1.
Several others qualified for state on an at-large basis with their strong performances:
Shot put: Danny Whitmore, 45’11.5;
Long jump: Emilio Villagrana, 19’7;
High jump: Jaden Durr and Matt Roeder, 5’8.
The group heading to Des Moines for state should give the Spartans an opportunity to bring home a trophy. The meet takes place this Friday through Saturday at Drake Stadium.
“The weather was never an excuse, they just went out and competed, and together they were successful,” head coach Mark Sovers said, commenting on his team’s performance. “We are looking forward to a successful weekend in Des Moines and making the most of our opportunity.”
