CCA boys fifth at Bobcat Relays at Van Horne

VAN HORNE– The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) boys track and field team posted a fifth-place team finish Friday, April 15, at the Bobcat Relays hosted by Benton Community at Bobcat Stadium.
Mount Vernon won the meet with 148 points, followed by Vinton-Shellsburg (142.5), the host Bobcats (106), Williamsburg (77.5) and the Clippers (63). Independence, Union, Janesville, Belle Plaine, Columbus Catholic, Iowa Valley, Alburnett and Valley Lutheran rounded out the 13-team field.
Kage Hinricks, Jack Wingert, Drake Mougin and Tate Thomsen brought the 4x800-meter relay to a second-place finish as did Matt Brimeyer, Grant Riggan, Seb Johanson and Derek Toy with the 440-meter shuttle hurdle relay. A third-place finish went to Johanson, Daniel Goldsmith, Ashton Carpenter and Mougin for the 1,600-meter relay. Daniel Goldsmith, Hinricks, Cooper Secrest-Seelman and Derek Toy posted a fourth-place showing in the 4x400-meter relay as well.
Johanson, Riggan and Brimeyer posted fourth-place finishes in the long jump, discus and 110-meter hurdles, respectively.
Coach Ben Robison said, “It was a good night for our young squad! All of our relays ran season’s best marks, even into a strong headwind. I’m excited to get back to work next week!”
The Clippers travel to Cedar Falls Thursday, April 21, for the Tigers’ invitational meet starting at 4:30 p.m. and visit West Liberty on Friday, April 22, with a 4:30 p.m. start. The Clippers’ Pacha Relays are set for Thursday, April 28, in Tiffin with a 5 p.m. start.
