CCA Jazz wins at Charles City, qualifies for state championships

CHARLES CITY– The Clear Creek Amana Jazz Ensemble headed north to Charles City on Saturday, March 9, for the 32nd Annual Charles City Jazz Festival. The jazz ensemble, under the direction of John C. Smith, competed in the 3A division along with five other Jazz bands from throughout the state of Iowa. The festival was held in the Charles City Middle School Auditorium.
The Clipper’s Jazz Ensemble placed first in the 3A division. In addition, CCA trumpet soloist, Jessen Smith, was awarded best soloist over all divisions. The Jazz Ensemble’s first place finish helped them earn a wild card invitation to the Iowa Jazz Championships on April 18.

This is first time Clear Creek Amana has ever been selected to participate in this elite statewide competition. For more information about the competition go to iowajazzchampionships.org.
