Clipper Boys second at home XC meet

IOWA CITY– Monday, Sept. 25, was a hot day at the Kickers Soccer Park, in Iowa City. The Clear Creek Amana (CCA) varsity boys cross country team was also hot as they hosted their home meet.
However, Mid-Prairie’s Floyd Evans and the rest of the Golden Hawks were just a little bit hotter. Evans won the Clipper Cross Country Classic in 17:28.31 and the Golden Hawks won the team title with 29 points, while CCA’s Brandon Barker was second in 17:43.36 and the Clippers were the runner-up team with 31 points. Vinton-Shellsburg, Winfield-Mount Union and Columbus Community rounded out the field.
The Clippers cracked the top-10 of the Iowa Association of Track Coaches weekly rankings Tuesday, Sept. 26, as the ninth-ranked squad in Class 3A. CCA also made the Teams to Watch list along with Benton Community, Clear Lake, Glenwood, LeMars and Mount Pleasant. Dubuque Wahlert was the fourth-ranked team, while Mount Vernon-Lisbon was sixth, and Cedar Rapids Xavier was eighth with Dallas Center-Grimes in the No. 1 spot.
The varsity Clippers head for Troy Mills and North Linn High School on Saturday, Oct. 7, for a 9 a.m. invitational and run Thursday, Oct. 12, in the WaMaC Meet at Vinton-Shellsburg starting at 4 p.m.
Jaxon Strank led the CCA middle school squad with a fifth-place finish in 13:45.72, while the Clippers were the runner-up squad with 51 points to Mid-Prairie with 28.
