Clippers baseball split with Raiders of Williamsburg
WILLIAMSBURG — Andrew Davis’ Clear Creek Amana (CCA) Clippers varsity baseball team split a doubleheader Monday evening with their rivals in Williamsburg, the Raiders.
The Raiders took the opener 4-2, putting up four runs with five hits and a pair of errors. Williamsburg scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, and three in the sixth. The Clippers had two runs with six hits and one error. CCA’s runs came in the top of the third and fifth respectively as Dillon Villhauer and Nile Eckermann scored. Tyler Schulte and Zach Volk posted RBIs in the effort while Dalton Beckler and A.J. Liddell contributed hits.
On the mound, Villhauer threw six innings, giving up four earned runs and striking out four.
The Clippers took the nightcap 5-2 in a 10-inning marathon. CCA posted five runs, four hits and a pair of errors. The Raiders’ two runs came with eight hits and four errors.
CCA’s runs came in the top of the first and second (one each), and a three-run tenth. Williamsburg’s runs were scored in the bottom of the fourth and fifth respectively. Villhauer scored two runs for CCA while Eckermann, Evan Hergert and Doug Yansky put up one run each. Villhauer also had a pair of RBIs, Schulte put up one. Additionally, Volk put up a hit as well in the effort.
Beckler and Justin Keith shared the mound with five innings apiece. Beckler gave up two runs (one earned), six hits and struck-out four. Keith struck out seven Raiders and gave up two hits to take the win.
