Community Foundation of Johnson County golf outing

IOWA CITY– Online registration for the sixth annual “Tee Off for Philanthropy– Team Up for Community” golf outing has opened. Golfers may register on-line at http://communityfoundationofjohnsoncounty.org/pages/golf-outing-rsvp.php.
The annual golf outing is held on the Monday preceding the annual Memorial Day holiday weekend. This year’s event will be held May 21 at the Brown Deer Golf Course and Country Club in Coralville to benefit the Community Foundation of Johnson County.
Launched last year, organizers are continuing to develop the “Charity Ball Drop” which provides nonprofit organizations receiving funding from the Community Foundation of Johnson County an opportunity to sell raffle tickets and receive additional funds.
The Coralville Fire Department’s ladder truck will drop 2,000 numbered golf balls on a green in front of the Brown Deer clubhouse at 6 p.m. Those who participate by purchasing Charity Ball Drop raffle tickets, will win if their ball lands in or closest to the hole. Raffle ticket holders may win a number of cash prizes– first prize, $5,000; second prize, $1,000, and three third prizes of $500 will be awarded.
Another golf outing feature of the Tee Off / Team Up is the opportunity to “play with a professional.” Pros who are donating time include Derik Birt of Blue Top Ridge Riverside Casino and Golf Resort, Sean McCarty and Brian Wernimont of Brown Deer.
Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The registration fee is $125 per person and includes lunch, 18 holes of golf with cart, silent auction and dinner.
Casey Cook of Cook Appraisals continues as the golf outing event chair.
Proceeds from the Tee Off– Team Up golf outing support the Hometown Heroes Scholarship Program which provides tuition support allowing Johnson County youth to participate in educational programs and camps.
