TIFFIN– A 30-point night by Clear Creek Amana’s (CCA) Karsyn Stratton pushed the Clippers past the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at home. The Creek Girls put up their fourth consecutive win, staying perfect in 2020, with a 61-56 WaMaC Conference victory. The win improved CCA’s record to 9-3, while Vinton-Shellsburg dipped to 7-5 and had a four-game winning streak snapped.
The Clippers held a slim 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, and an even slimmer 26-25 advantage at halftime. One basket separated the squads at the end of the third period as the Creek Girls stayed ahead, 42-40.
Stratton, a senior, led all scorers with 30 points, which put her total for the season, as of Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 258 points including 101 field goals, four three-pointers and 44 free throws. Fellow senior Meagan Harvey was CCA’s second-highest scorer with 11.
The Creek Girls travel to Independence on Friday, Jan. 24, for a 7:30 p.m. varsity tip-off, and host South Tama on Tuesday, Jan. 28, for the squads’ second meeting of the season. CCA rolled over the Trojans, 70-22, on Monday, Jan. 13, in Tama. The Clippers and Vikettes meet again on Friday, Jan. 31, in Vinton.
