The question that needs to be answered by the city is: Why would you not get an independent appraisal for a few thousand dollars to insure that the property that you propose to purchase for millions is valued appropriately? Why does the City insist on paying more for the property than necessary—if that is indeed the case? Why not get the additional appraisal to insure that the taxpayers’ interests are truly being considered? The fact that the Seller purchased the property only three years ago for $6 million should alert you to conduct a thorough analysis of the proposed price.
