Doris E. Thompson
Doris E. Thompson, 78, of rural Rowley, formerly of Cottage Reserve in rural Solon, died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was born on Oct. 17, 1935, in Perry, the daughter of Warren Dunlap and Katherine Eleanor (Davis) Pratt. She graduated from high school in Rowley and then completed her nurse’s training at St. Luke’s Nursing School in Cedar Rapids. She eventually earned a master’s degree in nursing and worked at the Solon Nursing Care Center and the VA hospital in Iowa City. On Nov. 4, 1987, she and Kenneth Thompson were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rowley. She enjoyed cooking (especially baking), reading and gardening. She also played the electric keyboard at the Senior Center in Independence, as she had done at Solon Old Gold Diner.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons, Bruce W. Kaesser of Waterloo, and Rodney Kaesser of Rowley; three grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Rehberg of Rockford, Ill.; and an honorary brother, Joe (Louise) Yoder of Waterloo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Phil Pratt. Graveside services were held Monday, Feb. 3, at the Rowley Cemetery near Rowley.
