Ely Church to host Kolach Kamp and Tractor Ride Aug. 28
ELY– First Presbyterian Church near Ely will host a “Kolach Kamp” on Friday, August 28, in the church kitchen starting at 7 a.m. Kolach Kamp has been held periodically in the past few years in order to teach the art of making and baking the Czech pastry to our younger generation and others who wish to learn. Participants will be able to take home kolaches to their families at the conclusion of the morning of baking.
The event will be led by Joanne Chadima and other experienced kolach makers from the church. The church is located 1-½ miles west of Ely at the corner of Vista and Spanish Roads. For more information, call Joanne at 319-846-2572.
The next day, Saturday, August 29, the church will host a Tractor Ride, rain or shine, as a fundraiser for church activities. Drivers will meet at 8 a.m., form a tractorcade which will travel about 42 miles on country roads, and finish with a 12 p.m. meal provided by Ruzicka’s Catering. A midway rest stop will include drinks and homemade kolaches. Cost of the ride and meal is $35. Meal only, is $15.00. The menu will be roast beef or roast pork, party potatoes, corn and rolls, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert, lemonade and iced tea.
