Girls on the trail, running and pulling!
SOLON– Girls on the Run (GOTR) is a 12-week program that helps prepare third through sixth grade girls to run a 5K race. Along with the physical training, there are lessons each day that teach positive life choices, including giving back to the community. GOTR in Solon chose a garlic mustard pull for their community service project.
Information about garlic mustard was taken from the Department of Natural Resources brochure and discussed with the girls. They were anxious to help out the woodland animals by saving the natural undergrowth. In late April, the Solon girls and coaches ran from the middle school to the Lake Macbride trailhead. After a very short identification lesson, the girls were off and pulling. They filled several bags, and they thoroughly enjoyed the activity.
