A graceful entrance
NORTH LIBERTY– “Dream. Dance. Celebrate.” was the theme for Debut Dance and Pilates Studio’s first annual student recital in June.
Debut Dance and Pilates opened in September, 2008, the long-time vision of owner and instructor Megan Fickel. Located at 1210 Jordan St. in North Liberty, Fickel teaches a variety of classes for students ages three to 16 years, ranging from ballet, tap and jazz to hip hop and lyrical style dancing.
“And my favorite… dance team!” Fickel added.
The first recital for Debut’s 65 students was a successful one, said Fickel. It was held at City High Auditorium in Iowa City.
“It turned out to be the perfect location,” she said. “The auditorium is absolutely gorgeous.”
Even more important, Fickel said, was the success the dancers enjoyed.
“For most of the dancers, this was their big debut on the stage, and each girl rose to the occasion. As the director, I couldn't have asked for a better first show. I am so proud of all my little dancers.”
Though the studio is now in summer session, the Debut Dance Team, comprised of dancers ages five to 15 years, will perform in the Solon Beef Days parade the morning of July 18, and later on the Kids’ Korner stage at 2 p.m.
The studio is now accepting registrations for the fall session that begins August 31.
“Space is limited and classes are filling up,” Fickel noted. “Families can find our 2009-2010 schedule online at www.debutdp.com, or they can also stop by the studio to pick up a form.”
