Harold Elroy Moffit, 78, died Monday, May 12, 2014, at Manor Care in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life Service was held May 16, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Elder Alan Trumpold officiated. Burial was in the Piersol Cemetery, rural North English. A general memorial fund has been established.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1936, near North English, a son of William and Bessie Simmons Moffit. He grew up and attended school in the Green Valley community. Harold served honorably in the U.S. Marines and Army. He was a Golden Gloves boxer in his younger years. He married Judith J. Knipfer and they later divorced. Harold married Delilah Trumpold Eichacker on Sept. 13, 1980, in Cedar Rapids. Harold worked at Nissen Trampoline, Dearborn Brass and 20 years at Retail Data Systems in Cedar Rapids. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening. Harold became a resident of Manor Care in Cedar Rapids in August 2012.
Harold is survived by his wife Delilah Moffit of Marion; a son William Moffit of Fairfax; grandsons Mack and Brayden Moffit; daughter-in-law Annette Van Thournout of Parnell; sisters: Velda Schauff of Wellman; Ruby Mayes of DeSoto, Missouri; Mildred Walters of Tiffin, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Roy Moffit, brothers: Dean and Wayne Moffit; sisters Emmagene Myers, Ida Herrick, Donna Perrin, Ruth Claypool and Arlene Swenson.
