Jack Hilsenbeck, 68, of Solon, died from a courageous battle with lung cancer, Friday, June 3, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, June 7, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery where full military rites were conducted.
Jack was born March 13, 1943, in Greeley, the son of Robert and Goldie Hilsenbeck. He married Clara Funke on Oct. 11, 1969, in Ryan. He worked at KW Products for over 35 years. Jack was in the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and a NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt. He looked forward to his Friday night trips to Sutliff Bar. He enjoyed his retirement gardening and working in his yard and flower beds. He took pride in his accomplishments.
Jack is survived by his wife Clara, his children Tammi of Chicago, Ill., Robert of North Liberty and Sean of Solon; sisters Sheryl Schlagel (Jim) of Westville, Ind., and Bev Hartbeck of Edgewood; and his mother Goldie Hilsenbeck of Greeley. He was preceded in death by his father Robert, father-in-law Ralph Funke, brother-in-law Gary Hartbeck, niece Janine Vcelka Kennedy and many aunts and uncles.
