Janet “Jan” Kay Bennett, 74, died peacefully in her son’s and her and husband Ty’s former home March 29, 2014, from a courageous battle with cancer. Celebration of Jan’s life was April 2 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, with burial following in Anderson Cemetery in Swisher.
Jan was born Dec. 7, 1939, in West Branch, the daughter of Francis W. and Clarice (Countryman) Cihla. She was united in marriage to Ty Bennett on July 6, 1958. She worked for Moore Business Forms for over 23 years, until her retirement in 2003. Jan was a member of Swisher American Legion Auxiliary.
Jan is survived by her children Gerald “Jerry” (Angie) Bennett of Cedar Rapids, Teri (Jim) Fortmann of Marion, Chris Bennett of Swisher, Darla Bennett of Swisher; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Sharon) Cihla of Cedar Rapids; two sisters Debra (Larry) Syring of Appleton, Wis. and Sandra A. Cihla of Sterling, Ill.; two sister-in-laws Geraldine “Jerry Sue” (Bob) Teel of Cedar Rapids and Dawn (Bob) Ballinger of Toledo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ty, a son Tyrone Bennett Jr., an infant daughter Wendy Sue Bennett.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jan’s sister Sandy, for her loving care and devotion over the past year for Jan.
