Johnson County’s burn ban lifted
JOHNSON COUNTY– The State Fire Marshal’s office, at the request of the Johnson County Mutual Aid Association and Battalion Chief Dan Smith of Solon, has lifted the burn ban in Johnson County.
The ban, which was put into effect on July 12 due to drought conditions throughout the state, prohibited open burning without a permit or burning within a contained fire ring. Because of recent rains, firefighters now deem that conditions have improved, so open burning no longer poses a potential danger to life or property.
The ban was lifted at noon on Aug. 17.
The abutting counties of Linn, Iowa, Muscatine and Washington had also lifted their opening burning bans as of Aug. 17.
