Joseph Sentelik, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services with military honors were held on Monday, Dec. 28, in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Entombment was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was Dec. 27 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Corrine; their children, Robert (Deb) Sentelik of Solon, Jeanne (John) Collins of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Lori (Mark) Werning of Shellsburg; six grandchildren, Courteney, Sarah and Christian Collins, and Breanna, Melinda and Justin Werning; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alex, Steve and Kenny; and four sisters, Susan, Mary, Betty and Marge.
Joseph was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Rutherford, Pa., to Michael and Maria (Baranics) Sentelik. He married Corrine Viverito on June 11, 1955, in Chicago, Ill. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, including World War II and the Korean War; and was a postal letter carrier.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Marion American Legion Post No. 298, Fleet Reserve Association No. 216 and Postal Letter Carriers No. 193. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his crops with family and friends.
