Lady Spartans blank West Delaware, Anamosa
SOLON– Solon’s Lady Spartans started last week off winning their second home soccer game of the season against West Delaware with a shut out score of 10-0 with 6 minutes still remaining in the second half.
The addition of two freshmen to the starting varsity roster has proven that this season’s team is on its way to a winning season.
Freshman Josie Durr and Junior Emma Moss dominated the scoreboard with four goals each. Senior Anna Seydel contributed two goals. Credit for assists went to Ali Herdliska, Jade Flansburg, Anna Seydel and Nicole Oberthien.
“We have been playing really well and have been doing what we needed to do to win, but we are going to step it up even more as we get deeper into the schedule,” said head coach John Tucker “We want to really start putting solid games together and get our players working together well.”
With senior Vik Meade out with an ankle injury, Solon’s defender starting lineup has changed. Allie Mercer has seen time as sweeper, along with Seydel and Jamisyn Christner.
Solon’s defenders are taking care of business with no balls having breached the defensive line in the last three games.
Friday’s (April 25) game brought another win for Solon when the Lady Spartans traveled to Anamosa.
Forward Josie Durr scored five goals and Ali Herdliska brought home three more for a winning score of 8-0. Assists went to Herdliska, Seydel and Alyssa Stotler.
“The weather, and other activities and events have made practicing and getting into a rhythm difficult at times,” Tucker commented. “We have an opportunity now to start putting together a practice and game regimen that will hopefully optimize our play.”
Friday, May 2, the girls travel to Mount Vernon for another conference match and Monday, May 5, they are back home again to take on Davenport Assumption.
