Local Scout seeks food drive donations
SHUEYVILLE– A local Scout is pursing his Eagle Scout project while helping others.
Colton Valenta, a member of St. Paul’s Church and Scout Troop # 37, supported by Shueyville Methodist Church, is seeking donations of non-perishable food items to benefit the Mission of Hope on First Avenue in Cedar Rapids. Valenta is asking for non-perishable items to be donated in boxes in area Fareway stores or at the following churchs: St. Paul’s Methodist; St. James Methodist; Trinity Methodist; Vineyard Church; First Lutheran Church; St. Stephen’s Lutheran; and the Shueyville Methodist Church.
Donations will be accepted through Sept. 17.
An Eagle Scout award is the highest honor that a Ccout can earn. Eagle Scout projects must demonstrate a Scout’s leadership skills while benefiting a school, community, or church. Colton chose his project while working with his church’s youth group to serve meals at the Mission of Hope.
