Maria Kalm

Maria Kalm, 87, of Maynard, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein from complications of pneumonia. A funeral service was held on Jan. 12 at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. John Kerr officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Maria Chirita was born on March 21, 1924 in Galati, Romania. She was the last survivor of 7 children born to a Romanian storekeeper and his wife. She married Dean Kalm on July 17, 1948 in Independence.
Local survivors include her son Dolfi (Barbara) Kalm of Solon.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean on Sept. 18, 2003, and her sisters and brother in Romania
