Marvin Klahn Sr.
Marvin H. Klahn, Sr., 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday Jan. 26, 2014, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Services were held on Jan. 31 at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Mike Salgenweit-Coffman. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post # 727. Burial will be at Linwood Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors in include his sons, Marvin H. Klahn, Jr. of Solon, and William L. “Bill” Klahn of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
Marvin Sr. was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arline; and sister, Betty (Raymond) Brenamen.
Born Jan. 30, 1924, in Toronto, Marvin was the son of Harold “Swede” and Emma (Fisher) Klahn. He graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1942, and joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving in Greenland for four years. Upon his discharge he returned to Iowa and worked on the family farm. On Oct. 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Arline Edward. She died in 2010. Marvin, Sr. worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1982, after 33 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to “Team Iowa” with the Iowa Donor’s Network in North Liberty in Marvin, Sr.’s memory.
