Matthew Edels' “Not to Brag” Blacksmith Shop video

SOLON– Great-grandchildren Pat Ikan, from Solon, and her brother Larry Blum, from Marion, introduce the “#Not to Brag: Matthew Edel Blacksmith Shop” video recorded on May 20 at the annual meeting of the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association at the MEBS historical site in Haverhill.
Bill Roads, Haverhill resident and UMBA member, is also featured in the video. Roads takes the viewer on a tour of the shop and then outside to the portable forges set-up for visitors to “learn to be a blacksmith.” The UMBA is a non-profit organization of professional artists and blacksmiths whose purpose is to educate, share knowledge and present the art of blacksmithing to the public.
“#Not to Brag” is a campaign which began in December 2016 to mark the State of Iowa’s 170th birthday and to celebrate 160 years of the State Historical Society of Iowa. It features Iowans sharing stories about the art, history, film and culture.
