Mebus’ throw hits gold
DES MOINES– Connor Mebus threw the shot put 57 feet, 11.75 inches, shattering his own school record and bringing home a gold medal from the state track meet held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. The monster throw came on his third throw in the preliminaries after he had tossed an impressive 54 feet on his second throw. Mebus peaked at the best time possible, as the second place thrower from Decorah hit 56 feet, 7 inches. Mebus became the 14th state champion for throwing coach Brad Wymer, and the first to come from Solon.
Junior sprinter Jonah Kuntz brought home a medal with his fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash, while the 4x200 meter relay team consisting of Andy Klouda, Jordan Wymer, Riley Takes and Kuntz placed fifth as well.
Also competing for Solon were Wymer and Mebus in the discus, Klouda in the 100 meter dash, Colton Dall in the 400 meter low hurdles, the 4x400 relay team (Kuntz, Dall, Takes, Wymer) and the 4x100 team consisting of Klouda, Dall, Wymer and Kuntz. The Spartans finished in 14th place as a team with 18 points.
