The Book Club welcomes adults who wish to join in for just one discussion as well as new memberships. This popular book was discussed at other area locations, as well as the Solon Book Club. If you attended one of the other discussions, please join us with thoughts from the other groups.
The selection for November is “Any Bitter Thing” by Monica Wood. Raised by a Maine priest, her Uncle Mike, since the age of two, Lizzy Mitchell grew up surrounded by his devotion to his ministry. By age nine, her world was shattered again when her uncle was accused of molestation. After being sent to live with relatives, Lizzy is told that Uncle Mike passed away from the weak family heart and died. Now a high-school counselor and trying to make sense of her life, at age 30, Lizzy becomes a victim of a hit-and-run driver and is left, injured and stunned in the middle of the median. So, how was it that Uncle Mike came to visit her in the hospital? Wood’s drama is full of surprises right up to the final page. If you liked “Secret Life of Bees,” you will also enjoy this book club selection.

Books For Troops
To date, the Books For Troops project has sent 19 boxes to deployed soldiers. Books For Troops is a joint project between Friends of the Solon Library and The Solon American Legion Post 460 Auxiliary. These organizations have agreed to fund the shipping of one box per month. Additional boxes have been sent due to the generous donations received from the community. Many people have donated hard candy, magazines, paperback books and cash to help in the effort. The cash donation jars on the bar at the Legion have collected money used to buy poker chips to include in the shipments.
Most recently a very generous donation of $100 was received earmarked to be used as postage, which will ship eight boxes. The next boxes shipped will include Christmas items. Any donations to be included should be dropped off by the end of October. Items appreciated are new release DVD movies, cash to purchase candy, puzzle books or small Christmas items.
If you know a deployed soldier who would appreciate receiving a box for their unit, please call Margo Redlinger, 624-3780, with the address or leave it at the library circulation desk.
