Take time to read these
John Sandford’s newest Virgil Flowers novel, “Shockwave,” is just out of the box and onto the new book shelf. The chain superstore, PyeMart, is all set to locate in a Minnesota river town until two groups get all up in arms to try and stop it. The local merchants fear it will kill their businesses and the environmentalists fear ecological ruin. The protests seem to be pretty normal until a bomb goes off on the top floor of PyeMart headquarters. Entering the scene is Virgil Flowers to find out who’s behind the bombs before more go off.
“The Best Of Me” by Nicholas Sparks goes back to 1984 where high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole were in the summer of their senior year and deeply in love, despite being from opposite sides of the tracks. Fast forward 25 years later when they are summoned back for the funeral of their mentor, Tuck Hostetler. As they carry out the instructions that Tuck has left behind, they realize that everything they thought they knew and about the dreams they held dear were not as it seemed.
Mega-bestselling author Bill O’Reilly presents some of history’s most remarkable figures, vivid detail and page-turning action in “Killing Lincoln,” which is a history but reads like a thriller. Return to the spring of 1865 with the bloody Civil War finally coming to an end. In the midst of the patriotic celebrations in Washington D.C., John Wilkes Booth murders President Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre. A manhunt takes place as Booth immediately becomes the country’s most wanted fugitive. Lafayette Baker, an ingenious detective, unravels the clues while federal forces track down the accomplices. It’s a thrilling chase that ends in a fiery shootout and a series of court-ordered executions.
“Brother’s Blood” by Scott Cawelti is a thoroughly researched and straightforward account of the murder of the Mark Family from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jerry Mark was convicted of the execution-style murders of his own family, his brother, his sister-in-law and his niece and his nephew as they slept in their beds. This book is not a whodunit but a whydunit and explores the reasons of his acts. Author Cawelti knew Jerry Mark in high school, followed his trial and conviction and interviewed him in prison. Prepare yourself for a disturbing account of how one jealous brother carried out this crime. This book has been ordered and may not be on the shelf yet, but remember, you may call the library and get on the reserve list. Two copies have been ordered.
