NLCP publishes 2015 program summary

NORTH LIBERTY– The North Liberty Community Pantry has made available their program summary for 2015 to the public, online at www.northlibertycommunitypantry.org.
The pantry defines 2015 as a year of stability of “primary services of feeding and clothing our neighbors,” and growth of “secondary services focused on healthy eating and overall well-being.” The program summary highlights that the pantry distributed 299,272 pounds of food and toiletries– a four percent increase over 2014– and met their “goal of having two pounds of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetable available at each visit to the pantry during 2015.”
The expansion in services at the pantry impacted more than 1,600 individuals, through activities including Pantry Farmer’s Market, North Liberty Summer Lunch & Fun, the Growing Together Garden educational opportunities, recipe sampling, and many more less formal educational activities.
The summary recognizes the commitment the pantry had to the Johnson County Hunger Task Force during 2015, which “led to the most comprehensive countywide report on hunger in more than 10 years.”
With the rapid growth of North Liberty, the community is receiving new families with clear needs for food and clothing, as are communities adjacent to North Liberty.
“With strong leadership and generous community support, the pantry will continue to serve the growing food and clothing needs of North Liberty and small towns in Johnson County in 2016,” the study reads.
Thanksgiving in July is underway– a community-wide food drive effort to help families during the summer months when budgets are tight and children are home from school. Consider hosting a food drive or donating during this July. Visit the pantry website for more information.
