North Liberty Fire Department responds to garage fire May 3
NORTH LIBERTY– On Friday, May 3, at 2:49 p.m., the North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched to 530 Penn Ct. for a building fire. First arriving North Liberty Police units reported smoke coming from the garage of a single family residential structure. Residents report smelling smoke and when they opened the garage door the garage was fully involved with fire. Residents evacuated the structure and the residence had working smoke detectors. North Liberty Fire Department units arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the structure and garage.
A vehicle was reported to be on fire inside the garage. North Liberty fire units were able to quickly knock-down the main fire in the garage and prevent extension into the home. The fire was extinguished within 33 minutes after arrival. The fire was contained to the garage area and a vehicle inside, although the home did sustain smoke damage.
Early property damage and content dollar loss is unknown at this time but the vehicle is a complete loss. There were no reported civilian injuries, or fire fighter injuries and the residents were allowed to return to their home.
North Liberty units responding to the scene were Engines 112, 113, Quint 114, and rescue 119. The North Liberty Fire Department was assisted by the North Liberty Police Department, Coralville Fire Department, and Johnson County Ambulance Service.
