Old Capitol Chorus brings home first place
DAVENPORT– The Old Capitol Chorus of Iowa City won the Central States District Small Chorus Contest held in Davenport on April 26. They competed against barbershop choruses from their five-state region including Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and South Dakota. This is the chorus’s first district win since 1996 and the first win for the chorus under Director Chad Knipfer.
“We are so excited about the direction of the chorus with Chad in front of us, and we are looking even higher” commented J.P. Marshall, a lead in the chorus and resident of North Liberty. The chorus, which is comprised of singers from area communities including North Liberty, celebrated their win at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center with their annual Cookie Festival. They hosted barbershoppers from all over Iowa and had a great night of singing with over 100 men on the risers to learn a new song and sing together.
