Our Lord’s Fall Festival

SOLON– It’s a one-stop shop that supports the community.
Our Lord’s Church in Solon will host its seventh annual Fall Festival Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
A major fundraiser for the service-oriented congregation, the Fall Festival centers around a soup luncheon and bake sale, with craft items, a raffle for a hand-stitched quilt and a pie-baking contest thrown in for good measure.
The church, established in 2004, uses funds to support its many community service projects, according to co-chair Marge Knepp.
Shortly after forming, Our Lord’s Church began its Saturday Soup program, and has since added a number of other annual projects, including free community Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
The Saturday Soup ministry delivers meals each Saturday to seniors, shut-ins or anyone who simply would like a hot meal delivered to them on the weekend. Each week, a different church family prepares soup (two-serving size), crackers, fruit and a roll or bread and delivers it to homes or businesses in the Solon area.
Since its inception, Knepp said, over 14,000 servings of soup have been provided. “I think that’s doing pretty good,” she observed.
Knepp has been helping organize the Fall Festival for several years. “They needed someone to be chair, and I’ve been doing it ever since,” she noted.
Duane McAtee serves as co-chair, she said, but the entire congregation volunteers, from making signs and posting fliers, to baking candy and cooking soup.
The bake sale kicks off at 8:30 a.m., featuring homemade kolaches, cookies, bars, candy and other congregational favorites, with craft items and collectible dolls also on sale.
The soup luncheon at the church will start at 10:30 a.m., serving chili, chicken noodle, taco and potato soups, along with hot dogs and chili dogs.
The church will also be raffling off a hand-stitched quilt in a nine-point star block pattern. Six raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 from any church members or call the church at 624-5056.
Entries are still being accepted in the pie-baking contest, a new feature added to this year’s fundraiser. Anyone interested can contact Anna McAtee at 331-5111 or drop pies off between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.
