Paul Nelson Grecian, 91, of Marshalltown, formerly of Lone Tree, passed away Jan. 22, 2014, at Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown.
He was born June 25, 1922, to Riley and Dora Grecian. He grew up in Highland Township, Washington County, helping on the family farm and sawmill.
Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He returned home to marry Lorraine Ethyl Baker on Dec. 29, 1947. They lived their lives together working on their farm and going dancing. Paul enjoyed his family and neighbors. He was a kind man who enjoyed his farm life, animals, cars and motorcycles. He loved music and traveling with Lorraine. He was descended from a patriot who fought in the Revolutionary War.
He is survived by his son Daryl (Judy) Grecian of Solon, and daughter Colene Grecian of Marshalltown; three grandchildren: Andrew Grecian of Solon, Angela Grecian Daoud of Clear Lake and Erika Hilleman of Iowa City; three great-grandchildren. He has a sister Helene Lucille (Dal) Queck of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Delbert and his wife Lorraine.
There will be a memorial service later in the year for both Paul and Lorraine in the Lone Tree-Riverside area.
