Perry C. Lighty, 77, died Friday March 30, 2012, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services were held April 2 at the Buck Creek Methodist Church, with interment in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Local survivors include John (Becky) Lighty of Solon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Perry Clinton Lighty was born June 10, 1934, at Wood Center, the son of Raymond and Geraldine (Fairweather) Lighty. Perry graduated from Delhi High School in 1952. He worked at the Manchester Creamery until he enlisted in the United States Army. Following his return from military duty Perry worked at the Earlville Creamery and at Collins Radio. He took over the operation of the Lighty family farm in 1959. Perry married Shirley Whannel on March 29, 1959, at the Methodist Church in Traer. The couple farmed near Delhi until retirement.
Perry was a member of the Buck Creek Methodist Church, Odd Fellows Lodge and the Iowa State Archeology Society.
