Robert C. Davis
Robert C. Davis, age 81, of Williamsburg, formerly of Marengo, died Friday, May 17, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass was held Monday, May 20, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo, with military honors. A memorial fund has been established.
Bob is survived by his wife Genevieve; his children, Mary Hadenfeldt (Ed) of Solon, Bill (Margaret) of Marengo, and Tom (Bridget) of Edina, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Adam Hadenfeldt (Jenny), Aaron Hadenfeldt, Augie Hadenfeldt, Tyler Davis, Sonya Swift (Bob), Anthony Davis, and Neil Davis; a great-grandson, Mark Hadenfeldt; four step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Larry Davis (Sharon) of Ladora. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Greta Rader.
Bob was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Ladora, the son of Thomas Davis and Mabel (Hocker) Davis. He attended the Lincoln Township School and graduated from Victor High School in 1950. Bob served in the US Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. He married Genevieve McGarry on July 26, 1952, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Bob farmed, then owned and operated the Marengo Locker. He also owned and operated Davis Plumbing and Heating. Later he was employed by the US Postal Service, while continuing to keep his hand in farming his whole life.
Bob was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo, the Knights of Columbus, the Marengo American Legion Post #76, and the Williamsburg VFW. He was past president of the Marengo Golf Club, and enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends. He also was a member of the Ladora Saddle Club. Bob liked to play cards, and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He and Gen enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and 11 countries and were snowbirds in Arizona and Texas for 18 years.
