Solon Public Library
Storytime is held every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. This program is filled with stories, songs, activities and rhymes. Every week, following the stories portion, there is a craft. Older and younger siblings are always welcome to attend. Every Storytime during the 2014 Summer Reading Program will be related to the theme “Fizz, Boom, Read!” June 24 we will be talking about “What’s Alive.”
Every Wednesday, from June 4 until July 16, the library will host a program called Afternoon Adventures, at 1:30 p.m. During this event the children will read stories, take part in activities, and creating crafts all related to the theme “Fizz, Boom, Read!” On June 25, the theme will be “Geometry - Tangram Creations.” This program is geared for children in first through fourth grade.
Teens on Tuesdays
Every Tuesday, from June 3 until July 15, the library will host a program called Teens on Tuesday at 2 p.m. This program is for fifth graders and up. Every week there will a different activity, some kind of snack, and prizes given away. All programs are free and will last around 45 minutes. On June 24 we will be creating our own Myth Busters experiments. This based on the popular Discovery Channel show. We will use science to prove or disprove some common myths.
On Tuesday evenings, from June 3 until July 15, the library will be hosting various programming for families. On June 24, the library will be hosting “Ben’s Bubble Show.” Ben uses a few simple tools and his bare hands to create beautiful, humorous, and mind-boggling soap bubble sculptures. This program will be at 6 p.m.
Meal and a Movie
On June 27 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The movie is free, but registration is required for the catered meal and costs $7.50 for an entrée, vegetable, and dessert. The movie follows the meal and usually begins around noon. Call Sandra Hanson at 319-624-2710 to register, or sign up at Old Gold Dining.
This month the film will be “The Final Season,” a 2007 heart-warming baseball movie filmed in Solon and the surrounding areas featuring the Norway High School baseball team that had won 19 state titles and where baseball was life. A new coach has to fill the former coach’s shoes while dealing with the reality of his team’s final season due to an pending merger with a nearby school.

Scrabble Challenge: Last Wednesday of each month (June 25). Kids will meet after school 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. Adults will meet 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. BYO snacks and Scrabble dictionary.
LEGO® Club: The first Monday of every month (July 7). This program is from 6 until 7 p.m.
