Summer travel and our veterans
Summer is almost here! Many of us will be traveling to many interesting and exciting places, taking in the sites and visiting friends and family! In your travels, please remember that the SCSD will be having a personal hygiene products drive for veterans when school resumes in the fall. We will be collecting trial size soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste and similar types of items for the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. Last year our school collected over 1,000 items and we are hoping to collect even more for them this coming school year. Thanks in advance for remembering our veterans!
In an effort to end our fiscal year with all meal accounts current, the Food Service Department is asking that parents and students be aware of the balance of their meal accounts. Please remit payment to Solon Schools Food Service.
Stone Academy open soon
Stone Academy, the country school on Hwy. 1 just north of Solon, will soon be open for visitors. The country school was built in 1842 and served Solon students for 111 years before closing in 1953. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and remains the property of the Solon Community School District. Volunteers have recently made several improvements including fence repair, flower bed repair, new signage, outhouse clean up and brush/tree clean up. The dates and times are as follows:
May 29: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
May 30: 1-3 p.m.
June 4: 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
June 18: 1-3 p.m.

Come visit an important part of our local and state history! Mark your calendars now! See you there!
To all who donated at the “Bleed For Brett” blood drive May 17. We reached our goal of 106 units which will equal a $1,000 scholarship from the American Red Cross to Brett Smith (this included the 40 units from the February blood drive). Thank you to the 65 students, seven school teacher/staff members, and 14 community members who came to the high school to participate in the blood drive.
Because of all of you, you made the goal happen!!
