West baseball slaughters Waterloo East

IOWA CITY — It was Trojan vs. Trojan as West High entertained the Trojans of Waterloo East Friday night for a varsity double header. The home Trojans trounced their guests 11-0 and 12-1 in a pair of five-inning efforts.
West put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener, six in the second, and three in the third; scoring on 14 hits while leaving five on base. Waterloo only had one hit and committed a trio of errors while leaving nobody stranded.
Jeremy Cronk took the shut-out win, striking out six, giving up one hit, walking none. Luke Crimmins belted out a triple while doubles were put up by Nate Ewing, Ryan Siems, Ryan Rumpf, Spence Bonner (with three RBIs) and Cronk. Ewing, Cronk and Conner Schreck had one RBI apiece while Siems and Rump drove in two each.
West opened the nightcap with one run in the bottom of the first and then unloaded a 10-run barrage in the third for an 11-0 lead. The East Trojans scored in the top of the fourth, which was answered in-kind by West. West cranked out 11 hits, had no errors, and left three men stranded. East mustered four hits, had no errors, and left four men on base.
Ryan Aller took the mound for West and gave up one earned run and four hits while striking-out four and walking one. Siems and Schreck both launched home runs, Ewing, Siems and Cory Kuepker had triples; and Ewing, Ezra Reiners and Leo Franz belted out doubles. RBIs were credited to Ewing (3), Siems (3), Schreck (2), Rumpf (1), Bonner (1), Reiners (1) and Kuepker (1).
The wins put West to 22-9 overall and 15-7 in the MVC.
