West has 2-1 win over Hempstead
IOWA CITY– The West High Women of Troy were ranked third in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union in its Friday, May 2, weekly rankings.
The team, coached by David Rosenthal had an 8-0 record after putting away the Mustangs of Dubuque Hempstead 2-1 Thursday, May 1, at home.
Hempstead slipped a shot past West keeper Beth Crow four minutes into the match, but Anna Hausler retaliated a minute later with a high-powered kick that found the inside top of the net to score. Eleven minutes into the match Emma Cooper, a freshman, booted in a shot to break the tie, and also make the final goal of the night.
Reagan Steigleder was credited with an assist and five shots on the goal.
West hosts the Cougars of Cedar Rapids Kennedy Friday, May 9, with the junior varsity starting at 5 p.m., and varsity to follow at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, May 13, the Women of Troy will face rival City High on the neutral turf of the University of Iowa with a 5 p.m. start.
