West High runners headed to state XC meet

Women of Troy first in team points, Trojans third

RIVERDALE– Iowa City West High’s cross country teams showed the way to Fort Dodge Thursday, Oct. 20, at Pleasant Valley in Class 4A state qualifying cross country meets. The Women of Troy won their qualifier with 49 team points to earn a berth in the state meet. Gabby Skopec won the event in 18:46 to qualify individually, along with Bailey Nock (second), Jessie Skopec (14th) and Olivia Moore (15th).
The Trojans were third in team points with 64 behind district champion Pleasant Valley (33) and Cedar Rapids Prairie (55). Kolby Greiner (second), Ali Ali (third) and Andrew Murley (ninth) also qualified individually.
The 2016 state meet is set for Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge. Class 4A girls take the gun at 11 a.m. with 4A boys running at 11:30 a.m.
