William Matthew English Jr., 73, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, in his home in Anamosa. Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Anamosa with Father Wayne Droessler officiating. Visitation and a Scripture service were held Monday, Feb. 8 at the funeral home. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mamye, of 52 years; their children, Matt (Luida) English of Anamosa, Mary English of West Branch, Martin Diaz of Solon, Mike (Ronna) English of Anamosa and Mark (Jordanna) English of Cedar Rapids; and 12 grandchildren, Kasey, Samantha, Matthew, Curtis, Ashton, Thomas, Martin, Natalie, Christopher, Joshua, Alicia and Jordan. He also has two great-granddaughters, Laney and Paige. He is also survived by two sisters, Kay of Anamosa and Janice of Manchester, Conn.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Matthew English Sr. and Helen Porter English.
Bill English was born May 4, 1935, to William Matthew English Sr. and Helen Porter English in Anamosa. Bill attended St. Patrick’s School in Anamosa until eighth-grade and then attended Anamosa High School, graduating in 1953. He married Mamye Jean Perry at St. Patrick’s Church in Anamosa on June 16, 1956. Bill farmed near Anamosa his entire life and also worked at Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins from 1953 until retiring in 1991. After his retirement Bill continued to farm and worked as a bus driver for the Anamosa Community School District from 1993 until his passing.
