Douglas J. Steckly, 52, a longtime Johnson County farmer, died Friday March 6, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics of complications from a sudden illness.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Cosgrove with Deacon David Montgomery officiating. Burial was at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Doug was born September 4, 1956, in Iowa City, the son of Dale and Dorothy (Stockman) Steckly. Doug was raised in the Cosgrove area, where his family farmed. He was a 1974 graduate of Clear Creek High School. On May 24, 2008, he married Kathy Lampe, his long time companion and best friend, in North Liberty.
Doug was employed at Wendler Engineering and Construction Co, for the past ten years.
He loved dogs, especially his yellow lab, and liked to hunt and ride motorcycles. He enjoyed the outdoors, family and his friends.
Doug is survived by his wife Kathy of North Liberty, three children: Ryan (Melissa) Steckly of Cosgrove, Kevin Steckly of Tiffin, Kristin Scheetz (Dave) of North Liberty; step-children Jennifer Lampe of North Liberty, and Jeremy Lampe (Alexia) of Iowa City; six siblings: Christine Zinkula of West Branch, Connie Kistner (Don) of Rock Island, Carmen Smith (Jeff) of Solon, Randy Steckly (Helen) of Parnell, Tony Steckly (Connie), Kent Steckly (Michelle) all of Oxford; and four grandchildren.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents.
